My Journey

My path to becoming a civil rights attorney began far from the courtroom. At 17, I skipped my high school graduation in small-town Arizona to attend basic training for the United States Army. This decision set me on a course that would shape not only my career but my entire approach to advocacy and justice.

I served on active duty from 2004 to 2013, including combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. These experiences forged in me an unwavering commitment to the constitutional principles that I had sworn to defend. Since 2013, I've continued my military service in the Army Reserves, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major—a position that has deepened my leadership skills and strategic thinking.

After leaving active duty, I pursued my education with the same determination that guided my military service. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from American Military University, graduating magna cum laude. I then received my law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law, graduating in the top fifteen percent of my class and serving on the Law Journal editorial board.

Following law school, I had the privilege of clerking for Judge Bert Richardson at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin, Texas—an experience that provided invaluable insight into appellate procedure and constitutional law.

Community
Leadership

My commitment to service extends beyond the courtroom. I currently serve as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the City of Converse Economic Development Corporation, where I work to strengthen our community's economic foundation and create opportunities for growth. This role allows me to contribute to public service in a different capacity, helping to build stronger communities while also understanding the inner workings of local government—knowledge that proves invaluable in my civil rights practice.

My Approach

My military experience profoundly shapes my legal practice. The Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage are not just words to me—they are the foundation of how I represent every client.

I approach every case with:

StrategicThinking:

Unwavering Discipline:

Moral Courage:
Client-Centered Focus:

Just as military operations require careful planning and execution, litigation demands strategic foresight and tactical precision.

From meticulous case preparation to courtroom advocacy, I bring military-grade discipline to every aspect of legal representation.

Standing up for constitutional rights often means challenging powerful institutions. I'm not afraid to take on difficult cases when justice is at stake.

I treat every client like family, representing them as if they were my own mother or child.

My Commitment to Civil Rights

The constitutional rights and freedoms that I defended in uniform are the same principles I now protect in the courtroom. Civil rights cases are not just legal matters—they're about upholding the fundamental values that define our democracy.

Whether fighting against excessive force, defending First Amendment freedoms, challenging discrimination, or standing up for due process, I bring a deep personal commitment to every civil rights case I handle. I understand that when constitutional rights are violated, it's not just an abstract legal issue—it's a profound injustice that demands remedy.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

My practice has yielded significant victories for clients, including:

Successfully obtaining a permanent injunction against the Texas Education Agency to stop ongoing violations of a client's rights under the Service member Civil Relief Act

Representing class members in a products liability class action lawsuit that resulted in a court-approved settlement of $7.65 million, later affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals

Securing dismissals of frivolous lawsuits under the Texas Citizen's Participation Act

Successfully handling numerous appeals at both state and federal levels

Obtaining millions in civil rights settlements

Professional Involvement

I remain actively engaged in the legal community through:

Continuing legal education in civil rights law and constitutional litigation

Mentoring young attorneys interested in civil rights practice

Public speaking on constitutional issues and military justice

Personal Philosophy

I believe that the law is not merely a profession but a calling—especially in the field of civil rights. The constitutional principles that I defended in uniform are the same values I now uphold in court. My experiences in combat zones gave me a profound appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and a deep commitment to ensuring those rights are protected for all.

When you work with me, you're not just getting a lawyer—you're getting an advocate who understands that some principles are worth fighting for, no matter the odds.
